Facing My Fear: Attending Special Events and Occasions

Hi! I am here again to document my weight loss journey through the fast metabolism diet program. Last weekend I received a news from my aunt inviting us to attend my nephew’s birthday, in which it happened last night!

Facing My Fear in Weight Loss Journey Attending Special Events and Occasions

During the last weekend my mind was going haywire with the possibilities of ruining my diet! How can I tell them that as much as I want to eat the mouth-watering foods they served on the table, I can’t? This had been a great dilemma to me. And just from the fact alone that I was being surrounded with my relatives eating the same food, with me nothing to eat was terrifying. I bet I would really give in to the temptation this time.

I was at a loss. I don’t know what to do. I tried searching the internet and asked the community about it. The good thing is that they’ve provided me with lots of article guide to help me with my problem. They told me not to get too stressed about it and just enjoy the occasion. But how can I? I will be eating foods that are not allowed in the diet. And because I am such a paranoid one, I decided to list down the tips I thought would apply to me so that I will know what to do when I encounter the inevitable.

Before the Dinner Event

fast metabolism diet protein

  1. Eat 10 to 15 grams of protein every two hours throughout the day.

When Wednesday came I’ve been eating LOTS of protein throughout the day. On my three meals I had tuna in breakfast and lunch while my snack was packed with nuts and seeds. I know I broke the rules for Phase 2 here (and it kills me!) but I didn’t have a choice. I think this was a special exemption, right? So anyway, I see to it that every two hours, before the big event, my body was packed up with lots of protein.

sugar

  1. Eat natural sugars all day

Aside from loading up myself with lots of protein, I also ate fruits that are rich in sugar to help me prepare for the big event. I ate my favorite watermelon, along with pineapple and mangoes.

  1. I packed a veggie salad with me

I packed myself a tuna salad (with healthy fats) with me so that if ever I will be hungry after the dinner,  I won’t be tempted to grab those chips and eat my tuna salad with me instead.

During the Event

  1. Enjoying Myself

I had to admit, this rule was the hardest to follow, especially since I was tensed ever since I entered my aunt’s house. It took me an hour (as well as one hell of a scold!) to find myself slowly relaxing. My aunt literally told me

“You’re so stiff! You’re not attending a military ceremony, stop acting so formal! Loosen up!”

Only then I realized my mistake. I was here to celebrate my nephew’s birthday. I was here to enjoy this moment with him! I am not here to punish myself! Since then, I stopped feeling guilty and finally join the fun!

wine

  1. Drinking Red Wine

Thankfully, my family is not into drinking beers. We preferred drinking wines– especially red wines. That’s why I managed to enjoy drinking this one! Although I had to admit that I didn’t follow the rules of drinking “organic, sulfite-free”, since I have no way of knowing if what they bought is an organic or not. However, I do follow the rule of drinking water along my every sip!

  1. Detoxifying myself

This morning, before I started my last day in Phase 2, I decided to detoxify myself and had a sip of the Green soup. I am now looking forward in getting back on my track again.

Conclusion:

Honestly, I still felt slightly guilty about it. That somehow I wasn’t able to follow the rules throughout the program. But I also realized that relaxing yourself once in a while won’t kill you. Sure, I might fell in the wagon last night, but I can get back again today. What I fear the most turns out to be a lot better than what I dreaded. Now I am more motivated to continue and make up for last night! How about you? How did you deal these special events and occasions?

Weekly Reflections: Looking Back on my Fast Metabolism Diet Plan Part 1

Let me share you something before I got an idea to write this post. It was Sunday night and I got nothing to do. I was just staring at my laptop, browsing on the net when a particular post from my friend caught my attention. It was all about a throwback entry a year had passed after she made a decision to change herself for the better. For one second I felt relief since we’re doing the same thing, documenting the activities I made during the day. But girl I was dead wrong!

Weekly Reflections- Looking Back on my Fast Metabolism Diet Plan Part 1

Her entry was all about the things that changed in her life after she took that journey. It’s more of her thoughts, memories, looking back and recollecting about her principles in life and what made her to become a better person. That got me thinking, during the first or two weeks in my FMD journey, what have changed?

And this, leads me, into writing this blog post. This time, I will not be about listing down the activities I had done for the day. I will assess what are the things I want to do, I have to do, I had succeeded to do, and failed to do, and we’ll see if I managed to achieve it as I started the fast metabolism diet plan.

Let’s start with the things I want to do:

  • Lose Weight
  • Follow the fast metabolism diet rules
  • Resist temptation and unhealthy indulgence.

There’s still so many things that I wanted to do, but as I wrote this post, these were the things that popped in my mind. So let’s assess if I indeed accomplished these for the past two weeks.

Lose Weight

Last Monday, Sept 28, I was half-excited and half-dreaded weighing the scale. I fear to encounter some weight plateau. But I did it anyway, and I am glad I did! My initial weight before I started the fast metabolism diet is 200 pounds. When I weighed in, after a week, I found out that I lost 3 pounds! I know, this might seem very little to get worked up with. It’s really not a big deal, but for me it is! This milestone is a big achievement for me. It was worth it! I know that little by little I will be able to succeed in completely losing weight! So I count this as a success!

Follow the fast metabolism diet rules.

When I wrote this section, it got me thinking, although it was hard, like really, really hard, to follow all the rules set. But I managed to follow it! Well, almost. As I reviewed the past week thoroughly, I realized something. I haven’t made any journal about my exercise in Phase 2. That’s when realization dawned on me that I haven’t had my exercise during Phase 2. I messed up! I broke the rules! It’s because I was feeling really horrible in that Phase that I don’t want to do anything other than to lay down on the bed. So, as much as I hate to say this, but I failed to do this one.

Resist Temptation and Unhealthy Indulgence

Now, this is the hardest part for me. Especially since my intense craving kicked in Phase 2. Although I said that I managed not to give in to the bittersweet temptation, I have to say that I didn’t fully succeed with it. I barely managed to control my indulgence. All I could ever think that time was to grab something, anything that could ease and end this fiasco! And even my sanity is telling me to stick drinking with water, it was not enough. My stomach was growling loudly even though I ate my smoothie, it’s like my craving was not sated. So I count this as a failure, since I barely controlled my craving.

Now as you’ve read this, you might get depressed that I bluntly said my success and failure in each point. But somehow as I wrote this I felt relief. Because just by seeing and reading them made me feel like my weight loss goals are tangible and real. I can now focus and work on these goals. It serve as a challenge for me to overcome it and maintain my success.

I haven’t realized that  my entry had gone so long. So for now I will just have to end the part 1 here. What about you? What are the changes you’re starting to see as you started your weight loss journey?

Indulging Myself with Powerful Phase 3!

Hi everyone! I know, I know. I am already outdated with my journal entries. I never expected that life will really get in my way to finish my journal everyday. Well anyway, I will make sure to catch up my journals (I already have several drafts here).

Indulging Myself with Powerful Phase 3

So let us see, just like in Phase 2, I will just have to summarize my entry for Phase 3. After my horrible and disgusting experience with phase 2, I finally entered Phase 3. For my breakfast I decided to have something powerful and wonderful.

I want to make up from Phase 2 so I decided to eat Beef Tagine with Butternut Squash.  And just as expected, the food was so delicious! Aside from that, my caffeine withdrawal finally stopped and I am just so, so happy that I am not suffering from intense headache anymore (and I honestly think I will never drink coffee again. The pain was not worth it! I haven’t realized my addiction to it until now).

For the first time I felt like my soul was being lifted up from the dread I experienced in Phase 2! I also did Yoga for an hour and it’s definitely refreshing and relaxing! I’ve never been felt energized! For my morning and afternoon snack, I had the delicious and refreshing Blueberry Zucchini SmoothieAs you can see, I LOVE almond butter and I made sure to have lots and lots of it on my smoothie!

For my lunch I have another mouth-watering recipe the fast metabolism diet community recently posted. Baked Salmon Meatballs with Creamy Avocado. The moment I saw this posted on Facebook page, I was hooked! The recipe looks very yummy so I tried cooking it right away! And as expected, the recipe was very delicious! I love the creamy goodness of Avocado and coconut sour cream! It’s a perfect dip for the Salmon meatballs! I freaking love it! I swear this phase is heavenly!

And since I started Phase 3 on Friday and I don’t have much to do (since it’s weekend), I just read my favorite book while taking occasional sip with water. Aside from writing, I also love reading. So I didn’t realize it’s dinner time already. And since I became lazy and I couldn’t get my hands off the awesome book, I just heated my leftover from the Salmon meatballs in the oven.

For Saturday and Sunday, my routine was pretty much the same. Nothing much changed. As you see, I am an introvert person and I prefer to be in my silent sanctuary. I rarely go out, though I spend time with my friends everyday through chatting. I also tried more delicious phase 3 recipes and they’re just as heavenly as everyone claimed! I had two massage this weekend and I finished the series up to City of Glass.

Summary:

Phase 3 is an awesome and powerful phase! I am loving Phase 3! I love all the mouthwatering recipes as well as the healthy fats! I love indulging myself with the tender bits of avocado, almond milk, almond butter, chia and flax seeds! I dare say this is my most favorite phase! And I seriously hope that throughout the 28 day diet program we only need to do phase 3. I am dreading another round of Phase 2!

How about you? Do you also love Phase 3? I sure did!

Overcoming Weight Loss Challenges in Phase 2, Week 1

Hi! I apologize for the lack of update last week. Life has been busy so I wasn’t able to finish my drafts last week. But here I am catching up to write my journal for the first week of fast metabolism diet plan.

So, I was on Phase 2, week one of the fast metabolism diet(I will just have to summarize my Phase 2 experience instead of writing the 2 day journal individually). I have to say,  I agree with the sentiments and rants of other fast metabolism dieters in this Phase.

Overcoming Weight Loss Challenges in Phase 2, Week 1

Phase 2 for me was horrible! I felt like my energy was sapped out from my system. I felt really weak! I experienced some crams, aches and pain on various part of my body, not to mention my symptoms from caffeine withdrawal is still kicking in. It was unbearable.

I also don’t like the dishes for this phase. There’s simply too much meat without any grains or fruits! Although some of the recipes were delicious, I was struggling with finishing them all. I am already full halfway through the meal (you can view here for fast metabolism diet phase 2 recipe ideas )

Aside from intense headache, my sugar craving started kicking in. I think this was triggered because of the sugar or glucose deficiency in this phase. On Phase 1, my sugar craving was sated because I can indulge myself with eating fruits. But since fruits are not allowed in this phase, I think my body began to crave for sugar. And I tell you, it was horrible! It was so hard to deal with intense sugar cravings!

help

That’s when I decided that I needed help. I need someone to tell me how to overcome this struggle. I visited the fast metabolism diet community Page to share my experience in Phase 2 and they answered me to just hang on in this Phase. Also, they provided me an article link to help me in dealing with Phase 2.

I’ve read the article. It says that we’re feeling like this because our body is undergoing some detoxification and was starting to flush the toxins out of our body. I really hope so! I am hoping that even though I am feeling horrible in this Phase, it will be all worth it!

So, I tried the tips provided in the article. I ate a lot of alkaline veggies in my snacks with the aid of milk thistle tea. I also drank a lot more water to ease the craving I am experiencing. So far,  the craving subdued and thankfully I became a bit better in the afternoon. Nevertheless, I wasn’t feeling at my best.

Summary:

So overall, I struggled in Phase 2. I dreaded Phase 2, it was unbearable. But I am determined to continue this. I am super excited to make a comeback in Phase 3. They say Phase 3 is a the most wonderful phase out of the three. and I am hoping that after my struggle in Phase 2, I will have a wonderful time in Phase 3. Let me ask you, though, how did you manage to overcome Phase 2? Any other tips you can share to me? It will be greatly appreciated!

Day 2, Week 1 of My Weight Loss Journey

Hi! How was your sleep last night? Was it good? Are you ready to start your day 2 of  fast metabolism diet plan?

Day 2, Week 1 of My Weight Loss Journey

If you’re asking me, I can say that I dreaded this day. The moment I woke up I felt weak, and I had a horrible headache! I felt like it will combust from the pain throbbing in my head. I decided to skip my supposed to be early workout cardio this morning, I’ll just do it later this afternoon.

Then I asked the fast metabolism diet community about why this is happening, since the pain was really unbearable. What’s the reason behind it?  Their response was, I was probably experiencing the horrible effects of caffeine withdrawal. It turns out I am starting to feel the symptoms of not drinking coffee from day 1. They gave me an article to read on tips on how to deal with caffeine withdrawal.

I started reading it and applied the tips they gave. I started adding cinnamon to my morning smoothie, after I had my breakfast. I really hoped my headache will disappear as I go through the day. I couldn’t afford to get a headache while doing my online job. I had an oatmeal smoothie for my breakfast, by the way.

For my snacks, I usually take same snacks for the morning and afternoon. I made another smoothie but this time, I added cinnamon to ease my headache.

For lunch,  I had another simple meal. A sprouted grain turkey wrap. I also made sure to eat veggies every now and then so that I won’t feel hungry, paired with drinking lots of water. It’s really hard to deal when you are having a headache and you’re hungry!

Thankfully, after I took another smoothie as my afternoon snack, the headache subsides. I was able to have my afternoon workout(this time I only did a brisk walk around the village) at around 4:30pm. On 6pm, I had another round of Easy, Healthy, Baked Chicken Breast and quinoa. I found that I liked quinoa more than brown rice after my first day.

Summary

This day was not that great for me. I had a major headache because of caffeine withdrawal. It’s really killing me! The fast metabolism diet book says the caffeine withdrawal will lasts for 2-3 days. I really hope I can bear this intense headache. But in terms of foods and meal map, so far I am doing good on Phase 1. I love the fast metabolism diet recipes for Phase 1, it’s delicious. Tomorrow, I will move to Phase 2. I’ve read reviews from other dieters that this is the hardest phase among the three phases. And I am about to find that out. Hopefully Phase 2 will be good to me!

KickStarting The Fast Metabolism Diet: Phase 1, Week One.

Hi! I am ecstatic that I am finally starting this blog. Out of the thousand diet programs I’ve researched, I came across the most interesting one. The Fast Metabolism Diet. One thing that fascinates me in this diet program is that, it does not count your calorie intake, contrary to the traditional diet we’re used to. It says that while we’re on this diet program, it promises that we will never be hungry. In fact, we need to eat 5 times (yes, you’re not dreaming!) every day. Can you believe it? How cool would that be? Losing weight without starving yourself? Do you think it will really work?

KickStarting The Fast Metabolism Diet: Phase 1, Week One.

These are just some of the questions I thought while reading this intriguing diet program. The more I read about it, the more I gained new learning about our body. I can attest that the principles  are great, but the most important question would be, will it work? Will I be able to lose my weight with this diet? With these thoughts running in my mind, I decided to take a leap of faith and now that the preparations are done, I am officially starting my fast metabolism diet journey!

So I started it today, September 14,2015, Monday. My starting weight is 280 lbs. I woke up early in the morning, at 5am to have my 15-30 minutes cardio. It was recommended to eat something before exercising, so I decided to eat a watermelon fruit, since it’s my favorite one!

For the breakfast, I tried out a simple breakfast meal, since I am still testing the waters on how my body will react to these changes. I tried out a Strawberry French Toast

So far, it was a yummy breakfast! I ate the fresh strawberries with a sprouted grain bread (one of the rules in the book). Though I need to admit, I kinda missed sipping my coffee early in the morning. But that’s a big no-no in this diet, so we’ll see if I can keep this up(Hopefully I will!) So instead of brewing coffee, I made a substitute of packing a smoothie with me. The smoothie serves as my morning and afternoon snacks.

For lunch, I tried another simple meal. I baked an Easy, Healthy Baked Chicken Breasts, since I loved baking! I paired it with brown rice to complete my meal.

It’s a lovely lunch as well. But after an hour(around 1:15pm), I felt hungry! My next snack is due until 3:30pm. What should I do? I thought we weren’t supposed to get hungry with this? I tried searching the website for a possible answer of my problem, and luckily, I did! It says we need to eat more phase-specific veggies, so I tried to eat spinach and eggplant, since I am still skeptical in eating other veggies aside from my favorite ones. Luckily, my hunger subsides and I survived until dinner.

I had my dinner at 6pm. For dinner, I cooked Pork Tenderloin with Juicy Apples and I paired it with quinoa this time.  I can say that this meal is my most favorite one. The recipe is just heavenly! I indulged myself with eating it. I slept at 9pm.

Summary:

Overall, first day was an okay day for me. I’ve had no cravings, except I get hungry after lunch. But maybe it’s because I am at the peak of the day where I get most work? I was writing and preparing my documents for my online job that time. The challenges I encountered this day are probably, skipping coffee(it’s really hard!) and drinking LOTS of water. I almost want to puke from drinking too much water! I am barely hanging on. But thank God I survived! Now, let’s see what will happen the next day. Will I start seeing changes in my body? Or will I start feeling some reactions from the diet? We shall find out!

Is there anyone here doing the same diet as me? How was your first day?
